Hi, I’m Marissa — the heart (and hands) behind The Modern Bakery. If you’ve followed me for a while, you probably know me as the macaron girl. I’m a self-taught baker who fell head over heels for these delicate little cookies and decided to make them my specialty. Over time, I’ve carved out a sweet little niche — creating everything from award-winning macarons to my signature Mookierons (yes, that’s a macaron-stuffed cookie, and yes, they taste as dreamy as they sound).
My days are usually filled with piping shells, packaging boxes, and hustling every weekend at the farmers market. It’s been incredible — exhausting, fulfilling, and life-changing. But somewhere along the way, I realized I wanted more than just being “the busy baker who never stops working.”
And so, here we are: me, starting a blog.

From Flour to Farmers Markets
When I first started The Modern Bakery, I had no idea how much specializing in macarons would shape not only my business but also my lifestyle. I went from filling small custom orders to running a storefront and now spend my Saturdays at the farmers market, meeting some of the sweetest people in my community.
But here’s the truth: baking for hours, every single week, is physically intense. After a recent shoulder injury, I started to face the reality that my entire income depends on me being in the kitchen. If I want to take a vacation — or even just a weekend off — the income stops. That realization was a turning point

So.. Why Add a Blog Now?
Honestly? Part of me thinks I’m a little crazy for adding more to my plate. But the bigger part of me knows this is the smartest next step.
This blog isn’t just a creative outlet — it’s an experiment to see if content creation can become another product of my business. With blogging, I’m exploring new ways to:
- Make money even if I’m not baking.
- Share my passion and knowledge with a wider audience.
- Build a business model where success doesn’t equal burnout.
I want to see if it’s possible to create more through content than I could by physically producing more desserts. It feels like a mindset shift — one that could open doors I never imagined.
A New Mindset for Growth
One of the biggest lessons I’m learning is that overworking yourself doesn’t equal success. For so long, I thought the only way to grow was to keep saying yes, keep baking more, and keep pushing myself harder — even when my body begged me to rest.
But growth doesn’t always mean doing more. Sometimes, it means doing things differently.
And maybe you’re not a baker at all. Maybe you’re a crafter, a jewelry maker, a photographer, or a wedding planner — another woman pouring her heart into a creative business. If you’ve ever wondered whether there’s a way to keep growing without working yourself into the ground, you’re not alone. That’s one of the big reasons I started this blog: to explore what it looks like when we give ourselves permission to dream bigger, work smarter, and build businesses that support the lives we actually want to live.

What You’ll See Here
Think of Hey Modern Baker as part recipe box, part behind-the-scenes diary, and part business experiment. Here’s a little of what you can expect:
- Recipes & Café Dreams: Cozy, café-inspired recipes and menus I imagine serving in a future café or catering brand.
- Behind the Bakery: Farmers market stories, product launches, and the realities of being a one-woman bakery.
- Digital Experiments: My journey with Google AdSense, Amazon Storefront, and creating paid digital downloads.
- Mindset & Manifestation: Honest reflections on slowing down, building smarter, and manifesting the dream business (and life) I’m working toward.
Manifesting My Café Dreams
One of the reasons I’m so excited about this blog is that it feels like a form of manifesting. If I want to own a café one day, grow into catering, or even get a cool food truck, why not start building the menu now? Sharing recipes here is my way of stepping into that future version of myself — the one who already has the café, the catering brand, and the abundant, balanced life I dream of. Even if my future doesn’t turn out that way I feel like it will open my eyes to new things I love – maybe I will love blogging so much I’ll want to do a cook book and continue down this path.
Manifesting, for me, is about acting like the person you want to become. Writing these posts, creating recipes, and documenting my journey is my way of saying to myself — and to the universe — that I’m ready.
Let’s See Where This Goes
This blog is new territory, but I hope it becomes a space for more than just recipes. I want it to be a place of inspiration for anyone building something with their own two hands — whether it’s cookies, candles, or curated events. A space where we can learn, grow, and remind each other that success doesn’t have to come at the cost of exhaustion.
So, thank you for being here at the start of this new chapter. I can’t wait to share the behind-the-scenes of building Hey Modern Baker and to see how this journey unfolds.
Stay tuned — next up, I’ll be sharing how I set up this blog and my first steps into experimenting with Google AdSense and Amazon affiliates.
Here’s to baking — and building — smarter, not harder.
