How I’m building passive income for my bakery when I’m too burnt out to post on social media
I reached a point where I felt stuck.
My bakery was growing, but only as fast as I could bake — and I was already maxed out.
No matter how much I loved what I was doing, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I needed to do something more — something smarter. Something that didn’t involve pushing myself to the edge every week just to keep up with custom orders, market prep, and the constant pressure to create new content for social media.
And every time I opened Instagram or TikTok, I kept seeing small bakeries who looked like they had figured it out.
They weren’t just baking.
They were showing up, being the face of their brand, and selling out every week.
Some were linking to Amazon storefronts.
Some were stopping custom orders altogether and switching to selling digital recipes or courses.
And they were doing it well.
I admired them so much.
And deep down, I wanted to have all of that too.
I Wanted More Freedom — But I Didn’t Have the Energy to “Show Up”
I told myself over and over: “Treat content like another cookie. You might not get paid for it immediately, but a good batch of content could bring in more income than a batch of cookies.
And while that made sense logically… emotionally? I was exhausted. I tried to show up.
I made “day in the life” videos. But I kept forgetting key clips during the baking process, and the videos made no sense.
I told myself to just talk to the camera and tell a story… but as soon as I hit record: deer in headlights.
I didn’t know what to say. Or I didn’t feel like I had anything “worthy” of saying.
I used to feel confident on social media — I had a strong brand aesthetic, and I loved posting my desserts. But when it came to posting me — I froze.
I couldn’t keep up with baking and content.
I didn’t have the energy to force myself into becoming a talk-to-the-camera creator.
The Strategy I Started to See From Other Bakers
Here’s what I started noticing:
Some of the most successful bakery owners were pivoting. They still baked, but they also:
- Built personal brands alongside their bakery accounts
- Opened Amazon storefronts and shared their favorite tools
- Created recipe downloads or online classes
- Started earning passive income by sharing what they already knew
And it hit me…
This fits my exact situation.
I didn’t want to stop baking altogether, but I needed a way to grow without baking more.
I needed a way to make money even when I wasn’t physically working — like if I got sick, needed a break, or (someday) took a real vacation.
I didn’t want to just dream about having a softer, more abundant life. I wanted to actually build it.
So I Pivoted: From Camera to Blog
That’s when the blog idea clicked.
If I couldn’t “show up” in front of the camera, what if I showed up somewhere else?
What if I started writing?
Blogging felt doable.
I could write in the mornings with coffee or at night in bed.
It didn’t require hair and makeup or remembering 27 filming steps.
And maybe, over time, it would help me build confidence in my voice — even if I wasn’t ready to speak it out loud yet.
My Plan for Passive Income Through Blogging + Pinterest
This blog isn’t just a creative outlet.
It’s a business move — one that I’m building slowly and intentionally with long-term income in mind.
Here’s what I’m working toward:
🖥️ Ads on my blog
Once my traffic grows, I can apply for ad networks like Mediavine to bring in revenue from pageviews.
🛍️ Amazon affiliate links
I’ve already started tagging my favorite baking tools, market gear, and supplies — not in a spammy way, but as natural links within blog posts.
📥 Digital downloads
From recipes to templates to resources for other bakers, I’m creating downloads that live on the blog and can be purchased any time — no restock needed.
📌 Pinterest as my traffic driver
Instead of relying on the Instagram algorithm, I’m slowly growing my blog traffic with keyworded pins that lead people to my content — and eventually, my products.
Why This Feels Like the Right Path (Even If It’s Not the Loudest One)
Sometimes I still wonder…
Am I just looking for an escape? Imagining an easier life that doesn’t exist?
Can I actually be “that girl” people follow, support, and want to learn from?
But I come back to this:
I don’t want to hustle harder.
I want to grow smarter.
Starting this blog doesn’t mean I’ve given up on showing up in other ways.
It means I’m giving myself a stepping stone — something sustainable I can actually stick to, even during the busy seasons.
And maybe, just maybe, this blog will be the space where I finally feel confident enough to speak, share, and build something that works for me.
So if you’re also building something behind the scenes, dreaming of a softer life while still working hard for your goals — I see you.
This might be your sign to start writing. Start showing up in your way. Start now.
