Each cauldron is piped in a single color. Once baked and filled, the magic happens: a swirl of royal icing “potion” bubbles over the top, finished with sprinkles, edible shimmer, and a touch of gold leaf. ✨
The result is a cauldron that looks like it’s brewing something truly enchanted.
If you’re brand new to macarons, you’ll love starting with fun shapes like this. And if you’re ready to go deeper, I created a step-by-step Macaron Guide that covers my recipe, mixing technique, and beginner tips so you can bake with confidence.
How To Make the Cauldron
- Print the template and place under the mat to trace.
- When piping:
- First, the main oval first using a #12 or #2A piping tip.
- Next, using a #5 or #6 piping tip, pipe two dots (feet of the cauldron) and a line across the top (rim of the cauldron)
- Rest and bake macarons like you normally would. Because of the shape (and depending on your oven), I would check it’s doneness at about 18 minutes. To check, lightly touch the shell and check if it moves or is stiff. If it moves give it another minute or so and then check again.
- After baking and cooling, fill with your favorite buttercream or ganache.
- Decorate:
- Make a royal icing (on the thicker side but still pipeable), use a #5 or #6 piping tip and pipe small dots as if its bubbling out of the cauldron.
- While it’s wet, add sprinkles, shimmer dust, or gold leaf for a magical finish.
