This LOVE macaron is one of my favorite Valentine’s designs because it looks fun and graphic while still being very beginner-friendly. Instead of piping individual letters, the key to this design is using bubble-style letters that touch, so everything pipes as one continuous shape.
It’s a great option if you want to try something different from traditional hearts but still keep things simple with one color and minimal decorating.
If you’re brand new to macarons, you’ll love starting with fun shapes like this. And if you’re ready to go deeper, I created a step-by-step Macaron Guide that covers my recipe, mixing technique, and beginner tips so you can bake with confidence.
What Makes This LOVE Macaron Beginner-Friendly
Even though this macaron spells out a word, it’s much easier than it looks.
Here’s why:
- The letters are connected, so you pipe it as one shape
- Only one color is used
- Sprinkles do most of the decorating work
- The shape is guided by a template
If you’ve piped a shaped macaron before, this is a fun next step.
Printable LOVE Template
Using a template is the easiest way to keep the letters balanced and readable.
For this design, I created a bubble letter template with the letters touching. This allows you to pipe the macaron as one continuous shape rather than stopping and starting for each letter.
How to Pipe the LOVE Macaron Shell
Tools you’ll need:
- Piping bag + 12 piping tip
- LOVE bubble letter template under your mat
- One-color macaron batter
Piping tips:
- Place your template under parchment or a silicone mat.
- Start at one end of the word and pipe slowly, following the letters.
- Do the 1st letter, then 3rd letter allowing the batter to naturally fill in each letter as you move along.
- Then finish with the 2nd and 4th letter.
- Keep steady pressure so the letters stay connected and even.
This design doesn’t need sharp edges — slightly rounded letters actually help it read more clearly.
Decorating with Sprinkles (Optional)
Once the shells are baked and cooled, you can keep decorating simple.
For my Valentine’s version, I used nonpareil sprinkles and filled the macaron with sprinkle buttercream. The sprinkles add texture and visual interest without needing extra piping or color work.
Tip:
Add sprinkles while the shell is still slightly tacky so they stick easily.
How to Bake the “LOVE” Macaron Shell
If you are following my recipie,
- Let the macaron fully dry.
- Bake for about 16 mins. *I say about because every oven runs different and since the macaron is so big the bake time may vary.
Filling the LOVE Macaron
Pipe your buttercream evenly across the macaron, making sure to fill each letter so the macaron feels balanced when assembled.
Because the shape is long and narrow, take your time and don’t rush this step.
Why This Is a Great Beginner Shaped Macaron
- The template does the work for you
- No fine details or lettering skills required
- One piping bag, one color
- Sprinkles hide imperfections
It’s playful, forgiving, and perfect for Valentine’s boxes or gifting.
Final Thoughts
This LOVE macaron is a fun way to experiment with shaped macarons without making things complicated. It’s a great reminder that with the right template and a relaxed approach, shaped macarons can feel approachable and creative.
If you’re building confidence with shaped macarons, this is a great design to add to your collection.
